As China’s Minister of Defense and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) General Wei Fenghe visited the headquarters of the Pakistani army in Rawalpindi, China and Pakistan signed a new cooperation agreement on Monday to strengthen their already strong military ties.
Pakistani media announced that china’s Gen. Wei visited at the headquarters of Pakistan’s General Chief of Army Staff, Qamar Javed Bajwa.
And Both discussed “reciprocal interests, regional security, and enhanced bilateral defense partnership” for future challenges.
Both addressed ongoing ventures under the Chinese Economic Corridor Pakistan (CPEC), which is extremely prominent in Pakistani military efforts.
A “comprehensive review” of the CPEC projects was carried out by the recently appointed Chinese envoy to Pakistan, Nong Rong, together with former Pakistan Army Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa, who heads the CPEC Authority, prior to Gen. Wei’s visit.
The Chinese Defense Minister also held meetings with Pakistan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Nadeem Raza, Pakistani media, where both sides “acknowledged their dedication to ‘iron brotherhood’ and all-weather’ friendship.”
Gen. Bajwa, Chief of Staff of the Army, was stated that both countries have been standing together all along, and to in the face future challenges, our relations will not be changed.”
Although the specifics of the new MOU signed by the two armed powers were not available immediately, another agreement was signed last year when China’s Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) General Xu Qiliang toured Rawalpindi for strategic partnership and “Pakistan Army Capacity Building.”
