4.2 magnitude earthquake hits Alwar in Rajasthan; tremors in Delhi have been felt-NCR

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) stated that a medium-intensity earthquake of magnitude 4.2 hit Alwar district in Rajasthan on Thursday, tremors of which were felt in Delhi-NCR.

According to the NCS, the epicentre of the quake was Alwar in Rajasthan.

The magnitude 4.2 earthquake happened at 11.46 p.m. At a depth of 5 kilometers, it said.

The Delhi-NCR region is very peculiar in terms of seismic activities. It has several fault lines that give rise to earthquakes, but it also feels the impact of earthquakes that are epicentered as far as the Hindu Mountains in Afghanistan and even in Nepal.

National capital falls under seismic zone IV-a a very high-risk zone. India is divided into four seismic zones—II, III, IV, and V—depending on the increasing intensity and frequency of earthquakes.

Since April 12, the Delhi-NCR has recorded almost 20  earthquakes.
