On Saturday, a local news outlet released two photos of fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi, who is currently being held by Dominica police. The photos, which were released to the media by Chowksi’s lawyer, show him behind bars, his eye swollen and his arm badly bruised.

The images were released two days after the fugitive diamantaire’s lawyer claimed that he was “forcefully picked up by numerous folks” from Antigua’s Jolly Harbour and transported to Dominica, where he could have been “tortured.” The 62-year-old businessman has wounds on his body, according to his lawyer Vijay Aggarwal.

“I was told there are torture marks on the body. Now, we’re doing everything we can in Dominica to get him back to Antigua,” Aggarwal told ANI on Thursday.

Chowksi was last seen in Dominica, a Caribbean island where he had been living for the past three years after going missing in Antigua and Barbuda.

Choksi was kidnapped from Antigua and taken to Dominica, according to Aggarwal. “…He (Choksi) has stated that he was picked up by a large number of people from Antigua’s Jolly Harbour. He was then taken to Dominica. He was there on Sunday, and on Monday he was taken to the police station.”
