On Monday, Congress Secretary General Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hit out at the BJP government over unpaid dues to Uttar Pradesh sugarcane farmers.

The BJP government has Rs 20,000 crores to build a new corridor for Parliament, Rs 16,000 crores to buy a PM special aircraft. It does not have any money, however, to pay Rs 14,000 crores to UP’s sugarcane farmers. Since 2017, the price of sugarcane has not increased. This government thinks only of the billionaires,’ Vadra tweeted.

Meanwhile, Congress alleged that by destroying the minimum support price system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to weaken farmers.

“By destroying the minimum support price system, the Prime Minister wants to weaken farmers. Every Prime Minister’s decision is intended to bring profits to the capitalists. This conspiracy has now been understood by farmers,” Congress tweeted.

Since November 26, hundreds of farmers have protested against the three newly enacted farm laws on the different borders of the national capital: the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
