Mother’s Day is on the second Sunday in May, which falls on May 9 this year. Mothers are a one-of-a-kind gift from God to children, and the world honours mothers’ supreme sacrifices for their children. It also honours a mother’s unwavering love for her kids. As the saying goes, “your mother is your first, best, and always friend.”

The History of Mother’s Day in 2021

Mother’s Day was first observed in the United States in 1908, when Anna Jarvis wanted to honour her mother, Ann Reese Jarvis, a peace activist who had died three years before. In St. Andrews Methodist Church in West Virginia, Anna had a memorial for her mother, which is now the International Mother’s Day Shrine. Anna Jarvis wished to pay tribute to her mother, believing that a mother is “the person who has done more for you than anyone else in the world.”

The following dates are observed as Mother’s Day:

Mother’s Day is observed on various dates around the globe. Mother’s Day is observed on the second Sunday in May in India, but on Christian Mothering Sunday on the fourth Sunday in March in the United Kingdom. On February 2nd, Greece honours its mothers.

Even though mothers should be in our thoughts and prayers every day, having one special day to make your mother feel loved, cherished, and to show her how much you love her unconditionally is always nice.
