On Monday, India reported 3,66,161 new cases of the novel coronavirus, with 3,754 deaths. According to the Union Health Ministry, there were 3,53,818 discharges in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recovery to 1,86,71,222. The total number of COVID-19 cases in India has now reached 2,26,62,575, with 37,45,237 active cases, according to the data. The country’s total death toll has now reached 2,46,116. In India, a total of 17,01,76,603 people have received COVID-19 vaccinations.
COVID-19 registrations in India exceeded 20 lakh on August 7, followed by 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16.
It crossed the 60 lakh mark on September 28, the 70 lakh mark on October 11, the 80 lakh mark on October 29, the 90 lakh mark on November 20, and the one-crore mark on December 19.
“The end goal of all of this is to get people vaccinated. India is the world’s largest vaccine-producing country. They need to get resources not only from within, but also from outside,” said Fauci, who is also US President Joe Biden’s Chief Medical Adviser.
Last week, Fauci described the situation in India as “very desperate,” recommending that the government mobilise all of its resources, including the armed forces, to build makeshift field hospitals as soon as possible, and urging other countries to assist with not only materials but also personnel.
To break the “continuity and transmission of infection,” he proposed a nationwide lockdown for “a few weeks,” rather than six months.
He also advocated for widespread vaccination to halt the disease’s current spread across the country.
With more than 4,00,000 new coronavirus cases reported daily in the last few days, India is experiencing an unprecedented second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
