Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant will donate his match fees to help rescue efforts after a glacier burst in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, which caused flash floods in the river Dhauli Ganga.
To date, the death toll following the tragic incident has risen to seven, while 100-170 people, including those working at the Tapovan-Reni power plant, are missing.
Pant, who comes from Uttarakhand’s Roorkee, has taken his official Twitter account to urge people to donate to the rescue mission.
Pant is currently representing the Indian team in the ongoing Test match against England in Chennai and played an important 91-run knock in the first inning on Day 3.
Following the tragedy, the Indian Air Force and the Army also went into action on Sunday as part of a multi-agency rescue operation in the Chamoli district. In Ringi village in Joshimath, an Army engineering task force was also deployed and a control room was established in the area, they said.
The Uttar Pradesh government also put the authorities in all districts on the banks of the Ganga on high alert due to the rise in the water levels of the Ganga River and asked them to continuously monitor the water levels of the river.
