On April 24, 2021, Sachin Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history, will turn 48. Tendulkar, also known as the ‘Master Blaster,’ holds the record for most runs scored in ODIs and Tests.

Tendulkar played in 200 Tests and 463 One Day Internationals during his 24-year career. Tendulkar scored 18,426 runs in one-day internationals, while accumulating 15,921 runs in Test cricket with a brilliant average of 53.8.

Tendulkar is the only batsman to score a century in an international match, having done so against Bangladesh in an Asia Cup match in 2012. He’s also the first batsman in ODI cricket history to score 200 runs. On February 24, 2010, in Gwalior, he achieved the feat against South Africa.

In 1989, the Mumbai-born former cricketer made his debut against Pakistan at the age of 16 and has never looked back. Tendulkar made a strong comeback in the fourth Test of the series, slamming a gritty half-century to help India to a draw, despite struggling visibly in his first Test innings (Sachin admitted later in his career that he thought he wouldn’t be able to get another game for India).

Tendulkar represented India in six World Cups over the course of his 24-year career, putting in some incredible performances. In six World Cups, he hit six centuries, including two each in 1996 and 2011. Tendulkar finally won the coveted global trophy in front of a home crowd at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in the latter one.

In November 2013, when West Indies came to India for a Test series, he played his final match for India. His final match, which also happened to be his 200th Test, took place at the Wankhede Stadium.

Tendulkar was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1994, and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna three years later. In 2013, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, following his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Tendulkar spent his entire playing career with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. The ‘Master Blaster’ smashed one century and 13 half-centuries in 78 games for the franchise.

Tendulkar recently returned to cricket, representing India Legends in the Road Safety World Series. With 233 runs in seven innings, he led the team to victory in the tournament and finished as the tournament’s third-highest run-scorer (the highest for the India Legends team).
