RJD leader and MLA Tej Pratap Yadav said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take the vaccine shot first, days after statements against the COVID vaccines causing major controversy were issued by Congress and the Samajwadi Party.
Questioning the effectiveness of the vaccine, he said the rest of the country could take the vaccine after PM Modi. His statements are consistent with the statements made by Congressional leader Priyank Kharge, who asked PM Modi to take a shot at COVAXIN before handing it to civilians.

Akhilesh Yadav: ‘BJP’s vaccine won’t be taken’
At a press conference in Lucknow, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav said that ‘I’m not going to get vaccinated, that’s also on the BJP vaccine (COVID-19), as I don’t trust it.’ He also added that when his government comes to power, we will be given the vaccine free of charge. I’m not going to get vaccinated, like the BJP vaccine. I’m not trusting it. When our governor arrives, the vaccine will be free. We’re not going to get the BJP vaccine,’ said Akhilesh Yadav. There are currently 5,86,751 COVID-19 cases, 5,64,541 recoveries and 8,379 fatalities in Uttar Pradesh.
Dy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, responding to Yadav’s statement, stated that it was an insult to Indian scientists who had worked hard to prepare the vaccine. Maurya added that Akhilesh Yadav should apologise for his comments, pointing out that a former chief minister who made such irresponsible comments in public was irresponsible. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also lamented the COVID vaccine’s politicisation.
Manish Tewari of Cong asks vaccine questions
Speaking to ANI, Congress MP Manish Tewari questioned DCGI’s permission of the vaccine and slammed the BJP govt. The BJP government has been politically misusing the entire COVID-19 pandemic. The vaccine controversy is its latest manifestation. Who is going to get vaccinated with a vaccine that has its reliability question marks. Who is going to get vaccinated with a vaccine?” The BJP government has done a great disservice to the company that has to invest crores of rupees in research and development. They have licenced a vaccine whose phase III trials are not complete in their quest to prove their ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. They think about their political gains in the short term. The lives of 130 Crane Indians do not bother them,
Congress leader Priyank Kharge said that “is just demanding the data and wants the procedure to be followed.” He also said that if the Prime Minister believes that the Covaxin vaccine is nice sufficiently, “then he should first get mixed with it and should not research project with others.”
