A MiG-21 fighter plane crashed near Moga, Punjab, in the early hours of Friday, killing an Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot. Squadron leader Abhinav Choudhary died in the crash, according to the Indian Air Force.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in Baghapurana’s Langiana Khurd village. When the accident happened, the plane was on a routine training mission. The plane took off from Suratgarh in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar district for Halwara in Punjab. It crashed shortly after leaving Halwara for Suratgarh.

The cause of the accident involving an IAF Bison aircraft in the western sector has been ordered to be investigated by a Court of Inquiry, according to the IAF.

This is the year’s third MiG-21 crash. A MiG-21 Bison aircraft crashed earlier in March, killing an IAF Group Captain. A MiG-21 fighter jet crashed in Rajasthan’s Suratgarh in January. The pilot was able to safely eject from the plane.
