In a year, Lord Vishnu’s devotees observe twenty-four Ekadashi vrats. Each of the Tithis of Ekadashi has a specific name and significance.  However, the Ekadashi of the Margashirsha month, Shukla Paksha, is believed to be the most important one, and it is referred to as Mokshada Ekadashi.  From the word Moksha, meaning liberation or salvation, Mokshada is derived. Katha’s Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat

A benevolent king, who was humble, generous, and loved by his subjects, lived there, as per one of the legends associated with Mokshada Ekadashi or Vaikuntha Ekadashi. He was pleased with everything with which he had been blessed. However, he had a nightmare one day. He saw his late father in hell suffering. Disturbed by the ugly visuals of his dream, the King sought assistance in his kingdom from the learned Brahmins.

The Brahmins suggested, after learning about the King’s dream, that he should consult Parvat Muni (a learned sage), who alone could decode the message sent through the dream.

The king was also relieved of the trouble that began to surface. Ultimately, the King’s father reached Moksha.
