In the Hindu festival, Lord Dattatreya Jayanti occupies an important position and is known as an auspicious festival. On the full moon night of Margashirsha (Agrahayana) month, this day is celebrated. This time, on December 29, 2020, this auspicious day is about to fall. It is said, according to Hindu rituals, that on this day, Lord Dattatreya was born.

The Trimurti of Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the sustainer), and Shiva (the destroyer) are Lord Dattatreya, collectively reincarnated as Dattatreya, a sage, who achieved enlightenment without a guru. Also, some Hindu scriptures say that he is Lord Vishnu’s reincarnation.

Dattatreya Jayanti’s Significance

Lord Dattatreya has three heads and six arms, and in several states, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, this festival is celebrated with full fervour and enthusiasm in temples.

The temples are decorated on this day and people sing devotional songs dedicated to Lord Dattatreya. Devotees also wake up early and take a bath, and after that, to pay obeisance to the Lord Dattatreya, they perform puja at home or visit a temple.
It is said that on this day, devotees worship Lord Dattatreya with full devotion and dedication in order to fulfil their wishes. There are a number of temples, particularly in Southern India, dedicated to Lord Dattatreya. In Maharashtra, he’s also a prominent deity.
