The Union’s Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan passed away on Thursday in Delhi’s Fortis Escorts Hospital. Recently, he underwent heart surgery at a hospital in Delhi, at age of 74.

He had kidney and cardiac problems and was admitted on August 24. He had undergone heart valve surgery in 2017. Ram Vilas Paswan was operated in Fortis Escorts Hospital in Delhi for the past couple of weeks.
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Chirag Paswan tweeted on Thursday about the death of his father “Papa, you are no more in the world, but I know you will always be with me… Miss you papa,”, with A throwback image of his dad hugging a younger man around him.
Ram Vilas Paswan, who has been in politics for over five decades and is one of the most iconic Dalit leaders in the world.
He was born on 5 July 1946 in the village of Shaharbanni in Khagaria, East Bihar. He obtained a Master’s and Law degree, passed a Bihar Civil Service examination, and was appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police.

But he was not accepting the employment. Instead of that, he entered politics. The Dalit boy from the Khagaria district of Bihar soon became notable in local politics at the young age of 23 after being elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly on behalf of the Samyukta Socialist Party in 1969.
