Reliance Jio plans to launch 5G services in the second half of 2021, Chairman Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries said on Tuesday. Speaking at the India Mobile Congress, Ambani said there is a need for policy steps to speed up the early rollout of 5G and make it affordable and available everywhere.

“I assure you that Jio will pioneer the 5G Revolution in India in the second half of 2021. It will be powered by indigenous-developed network, hardware, and technology components. “I can say with utmost confidence that 5G will allow India not only to participate in but also to lead, the fourth industrial revolution,” he added.

While Reliance Jio talked about a 5G rollout as soon as spectrum is sold, rivals Bharti Airtel Ltd and Vodafone Idea Ltd believe that the technology is at least two years away because the ecosystem is not in India and the spectrum reserve price is expensive.
