The upcoming film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ by Alia Bhatt, based on a real-life tale of a brothel owner of the same name, has ended up in legal trouble.
A case against the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Alia Bhatt, and Bhansali Productions by Gangubai’s son Babuji Rawji Shah has been registered.
Shah has also lodged a case against writer Hussain Zaidi and reporter Jane Borges, as per The Print’s report. The book ‘Hussain penned’

Rumors have spread since the film’s promo came out, and Shah has been harassed at his own location. His leg was fractured because he was hit. As they are now known to come from a ‘prostitute family,’ his relatives are also suffering,’ Narendra Dubey, Shah’s lawyer, told The Print.
He added that in the near future, they may also file a criminal complaint against the accused for ‘defamation, indecent representation of women, and circulation of obscene and indecent material.’
Shah has allegedly alleged that some parts of ‘Mumbai’s Mafia Queens’ are ‘defamatory and an infringement of his right to privacy, self-respect, and liberty.’
The defendants are given time to respond until January 7, 2021, the report also said.
The release of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ was scheduled for September 11, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release was delayed. The story of the film revolves around Gangubai becoming the ‘madam of Kamathipura’, the red-light area of Mumbai.
