OG villain Ashutosh Rana of Indian Cinema turned 53 today. With some of the most unforgettable performances, the actor has carved a niche for himself in the industry.

The actor, born in the city of Madhya Pradesh in Gadarwara, used to play the role of Ravana in the city of Ramleela. He followed his interest in acting and went to New Delhi’s National School of Drama to act.

Ashutosh made his screen debut with Swabhimaan and worked in many serials such as Farz, Saazish, Kabhi Kabhi, Waris, and others after that. His film career began with the movie Dushman, where a psychopath killer’s impactful performance was delivered.

Dushman

Ashutosh also won the Filmfare award for best acting in a negative role for his first achievement on the big screen. Sanjay Dutt and Kajol starred in lead roles in the 1998 film, while Ashutosh played the role of a Gokul Pandit postman. Gokul becomes a serial murderer and rapist, who murders one of Kajol’s twin sisters and others.

Sangharsh

In this movie, Ashutosh delivered his most gripping performance. Ashutosh Rana’s horrifying ululating scene is seared into the minds of every kid in the 90s watching the film. In this 1999 movie, the actor played the role of a trans woman who would kidnap children and kill them because he was a nut case who believed it would help him achieve immortality. Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta starred in the lead roles in the film.

Baadal

In this 2000 movie, Ashutosh played the villainous DIG, Jai Singh Rana. The story revolves around the character of Bobby Deol Badal, who hates Ashutosh for the destruction of his village. In the leading role, the movie also stars Rani Mukerji.

Awarapan

Ashutosh plays the antagonist in this 2007 movie. Ashutosh is a gangster who initially sees the protagonist as his uncle, played by actor Emraan Hashmi, and later as his enemy to the point of killing him. His Malik character is one of the most subtle, yet deadly.

MULK

In this 2018 film, one of the most important contemporary movies, Ashutosh plays the role of a bigoted public prosecutor. Ashutosh brings in his sublime performance in this court-drama that deals with relevant communal issues. The movie, directed by Anubhav Sinha, stars Tappsee Pannu and Rishi Kapoor in lead roles as well.
