On the anniversary of Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra, a throwback to when she told him to stop wooing her with expensive gifts

Shilpa Shetty was initially hesitant about taking the plunge with Raj Kundra because she didn’t want to spoil the relationship they had. Here’s a throwback to their anniversary when she told him to stop wooing her.

Actor Shilpa Shetty and her businessman, Raj Kundra, completed 11 years of married life on November 22. The couple tied the knot in 2009 and had two children—the eight-year-old Viaan Raj Kundra and the newborn daughter Samisha Shetty Kundra.

In an interview, Shilpa remembered their period of courtship, which was somewhat marred by the fact that Raj was going through a divorce at the time. Shilpa said she was ‘disheartened’ to learn that he was married because she had no idea when she first met him that Raj was separated from his wife.

She said to Pinkvilla, “Four months later, Raj had once offered me to stay in his batch pad because I always travel to London. I was shocked to hear about his bachelor pad, and later he revealed that he was going through a divorce.”

She said she was trying to woo her with expensive gifts, but she was hesitant about taking the plunge because she didn’t want to ruin the friendship they already developed. “He was trying to woo me with the bags of Versace,” she said. “In fact, he sent me three bags of the same pattern in three different colors, and I was astonished. He’s still been throwing hints at me. But, I asked him to give it a complete stop, because I didn’t want to ruin the friendship and bond we shared. Moreover, I was never going to move to London, even though I was dying to get married at the time.”

But in the final, Shilpa realised that Raj meant business when he told her that he had bought the property in Mumbai, with the intention of moving part of his business to India.

This year the couple welcomed Samisha’s daughter into their lives via surrogacy. In an appearance at Neha Dhupia’s chat show, Shilpa spoke about her experience of becoming a mother again and said it was much easier the second time around.
