On Thursday morning, Dharampal Gulati, the owner of MDH Masala, passed away. He’d been 97.
Gulati has been receiving treatment for the past three weeks at a hospital in Delhi, according to sources. On Thursday morning, he suffered cardiac arrest. The lists of nonagenarian breaths last at 5:30 AM.
Dharampal Gulati was born in Sialkot, Pakistan in 1923, called Fondly ‘dalaji’ and ‘Mahashayji’. Dharampal Gulati entered his father’s spice company in his early days as a school drop-out.
Dharampal Gulati migrated to India after partition in 1947 and lived at a refugee camp in Amritsar. Then he moved to Delhi and opened a store in Karol Bagh, Delhi. In 1959, Gulati officially founded the company. The company not only flourished in India, but Gulati also became a distributor and exporter. His business exports Indian spices to different parts of the globe, including the United Kingdom, Europe, the UAE, Canada, etc.
Back in 2019, the government honoured him with the country’s third-highest civilian distinction, Padma Bhushan.
Dharampal Gulati donated nearly 90 percent of his salary to charity, according to MDH Masala.
